A hope for street children.
LifeChild Asia Foundation
Introduction
On every continent and place on this planet there is a
situation where children are being brought to an orphanage. The question is who
is going to help them? Well, that is Why LifeChild Asia Foundation is here. LifeChild
Asia Foundation is operating an orphanage model in the Philippines that reflects
a community of families, rather than an institution. As we all can see the
LifeChild Asia Foundation gives street children another chance and it is a
symbol for hope for street children. The number of street children have been
spiking recently in the Philippines. Street children make about 1-3 percent of
the population of the Philippines' largest cities' children and youth.
Purpose
LifeChild Asia Foundations purpose is to help and shelter
every street child as much as possible. In the Philippines, LifeChild
Asia Foundation run an orphanage that is more like a community of families than
a traditional institution. In the countryside of Silang, Cavite, Philippines, their
village is surrounded by pineapple farms (about an hour south of Manila). LifeChilds
orphanage is not like any other. They want to bring street children homely,
safe, and comfortable environment.
Description
The number of children forced to live on the streets is estimated
to be around 250,000, while it is probable that the figure is closer to 1
million. The number of youngsters living on the streets of Manila is impossible
to estimate. Some organizations proposed a value of 250,000, while others
proposed a figure of one million. One thing is certain: their numbers have
risen dramatically in recent years as a result of a variety of reasons,
including poverty, family structure, migration, and so on. These children, aged
0 to 18, are utterly alone. They are more vulnerable to forced labor, underage
prostitution, sexual and physical abuse, early pregnancy, and severe depression
and anxiety symptoms. Now what is the reason of the huge number of children
ending up on the streets? Poverty and big families, unemployment/underemployment,
limited access to basic social services, family breakup, and a shift away from
conventional values that are consumeristic and materialistic are the five key
causes for children to turn to the streets. Physical or sexual abuse within the
family is a common immediate cause. When these youngsters face family troubles,
malnutrition, neglect, and domestic abuse, they flee their families and spend
part of their time, if not all of their time, on the streets. Some have been
left behind.
